French Comte’ is a traditional French cheese made from raw cow’s milk in the Jura Mountains of eastern France. Aged from 4 months to over 24 months, it has a firm yet creamy texture and a complex flavor profile that ranges from nutty and buttery to slightly fruity and savory.
This PDO-protected cheese (AOC since 1958) is produced using milk from Montbéliarde or French Simmental cows and aged in cool mountain cellars, often on spruce wood shelves. Comté melts beautifully and is excellent for fondue, gratins, sandwiches, or cheese boards. It’s one of France’s most beloved and versatile alpine cheeses.
