Our Story

Mediterranean Foods started in a Cuba Street Wellington fish shop and a Christchurch fresh produce wholesale business. In 1990, noticing a gap in what food & wine was available at the time, Joe & Gino Cuccurullo in Wellington and Gerald Crotty in Christchurch aimed to bring the best Mediterranean products directly to New Zealand.

Our Growth and Expansion

By 1996, we expanded our range by importing Mediterranean goods, starting with just one pallet from Italy. But that was just the start. For more than 25 years, Mediterranean Foods has worked with top European food artisans to bring the best Mediterranean products to New Zealand families. We now import over 200 containers of goods from Europe each year. Our operations include three retail locations, two trattorias, and an online store that delivers direct to your door.

Our Family Legacy

Since 2017 the adopted Italian’s, the Brady family, have owned and run the Christchurch retail and trattoria business furthering their love affair with food, wine and travel. In 2023 the Brady’s also took on the Newtown operation to finally bring together the Mediterranean Foods retail and trattoria businesses.

Our Mission

Our stores and trattoria walls proudly showcase our family history and Italian heritage. Mediterranean Foods Trattoria and Deli focuses on creating food experiences with fresh, healthy, and flavorful tastes. We aim to encourage Kiwis to enjoy the benefits of the Mediterranean Diet—Eat, drink, and be healthy together with family and friends the Mediterranean Foods way!
